It's been a good few months for increasingly capable semi-autonomous driving systems, albeit only for those with deep pockets. Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot has begun rolling out to so-called HW2 cars, the models with the upgraded suite of sensors and cameras that, so Elon Musk says, will one day make the car capable of fully-autonomous driving. Earlier the month, meanwhile, Cadillac announced that its delayed Super Cruise system would be hitting the 2018 CT6 later this year.
The engineering behind the S-Class has always been focused on helping its occupants relax, and it also gets an upgrade for 2018. The S-Class launches in two models: S560 4Matic and AMG S63 4Matic+. Both versions feature new engines and the S63 also benefits from a new transmission and a new all-wheel-drive system. The suspensions of both models carry over mostly unchanged but with one new feature.
Mercedes’ 2018 S-Class gets a huge semi-autonomous upgrade
Mercedes-Benz has kick-started the Shanghai Auto Show with the official unveil of the much awaited 2018 Mercedes S-Class facelift. The luxury saloon has been due for a mid-cycle update since its launch in 2013 and gets subtle tweaks to the exterior and interior as part of the updates. While the cabin was already revealed in official images last month, the official unveil brings forth all details on the new S-Class facelift including the cosmetic changes, semi-autonomous driving systems as well as the new engine options.
The Multibeam headlights now get a bolder design with three eyebrow design LED DRL. These highly intelligent headlights get their glow from 84 individually controllable LEDs that calculate the ideal light pattern needed 100 times per second, using information that is sent by the windscreen camera. The front also gets the new design rounded bumper with redesigned air dams that run horizontal across the breadth of the car, garnished with sleek looking chrome lines. The huge trademark bonnet is flanked by the chrome Mercedes Benz three pointed star emblem. The side styling remains elegant and classy ornamented by the 5-twin spoke star alloys that make their appearance on the 2018 S-Class mounted on 245/50 R18 Continental ContiSport Contact tyres.
The 2018 S-Class also becomes the first car that gets the semi-autonomous technology in India. This is the Level 2 semi-autonomous system. The car comes loaded with the DISTRONIC safety feature that assists maintaining distance between the vehicle in front up to a speeds of 210kmph using advanced technology via the radars, sensors and cameras that are mounted on this one. 2ff7e9595c
